Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, packet pick-up is available on race day from 6:00 - 8:00am. However, we highly encourage picking up your packet on Friday at Midland Athletic Company from 10:00am - 6:00pm to be best prepared for race day.
If my race begins later, do I need to arrive by 7:30 AM?
Not necessarily. We recommend arriving at least 45 minutes before your scheduled race time (see race day schedule). You are welcome to arrive early and stay all day if you choose!
Where can I park my car?
There is on-site parking with a qualified parking team. Please respect the parking team and other participants and spectators while mobilizing your vehicle.
Can my friends and family watch?
Yes, there is a $5 spectator fee for ages 6 and up. We encourage the use of cash, but credit cards are also accepted. All spectators must sign a Rock the Desert waiver.
How many people are in a group for the group runs?
As many as you want! Remember, teams must cross the finish line at the same time.
Are there awards?
No, the main goal of this race is to have fun, build community, and work together. After this race, you are all winners!
Will there be gear check?
Yes. On race day, you can bring your race bag (given to you at packet pick-up) with designated bag check bracelets to the Gear Check location (one bracelet goes on your bag, the other on your wrist). The cost is $5 (please bring cash) for safe storage of your items. You can pick up your items at any time during the event.
How do I choose between beginner, intermediate, and advanced run categories?
-
Beginner: You or anyone in your group is NEW to obstacle course racing.
-
-
Intermediate: You and ALL members of your group have completed 1-2+ obstacle course races and are regularly active.
-
-
Advanced: You and ALL members of your group have completed 3+ obstacle course races and are regularly to highly active.
Your choice in these categories is based on the honor system. When in doubt, choose the less advanced category for your safety and the safety of other participants.
Will there be showers available?
Yes, a large outdoor shower will be available near the finish line to clean off accumulated mud.
Is there a "penalty" for not completing an obstacle?
No, but to ensure fairness, if a participant is unable to complete an obstacle in 3 attempts, he/she should step to the side and move on with their team. We highly encourage group participation for successful completion of each obstacle.
What ages can participate in the Kid's Krusade?
Ages 8+ are welcome to this event. Participants can create a team or run alone in this category. Adults may run with their kids but need to create a team in Kid's Krusade to do so.
How safe are the obstacles in the Kid's Krusade?
Participants in the Kid's Krusade will cover 6 obstacles over approximately 1.8 miles, including 2 mud pits, a rope climb, a large web to climb, climbing walls, and a traverse. Mud pits may have water reaching knee or thigh high for some children. The rope climb and web will have volunteers to ensure safety but involve climbing to approximately 8+ feet. Children do not have to complete an obstacle if they feel uncomfortable. Parents may run with their children but must create a team under the Kid's Krusade category.
